Problems with poker rules are likely to occur

May 23rd, 2008

Canada- In order to benefit the charities from the poker tournaments the government has revealed the new terms and conditions of poker tournament. As the Texas Holdem poker craze is building and growing from years it will be of great interest of holding legally sanctioned events in the capital.

Now the people who are interested in operating the tournaments have a legal framework.

The rules which are declared by the government are very simple and straight forward and leave us wondering as to why it took so much time to them to reveal these rules and also how much time they have invested by them to plan these rules.

The rules which will now be followed are-

1. For the prize pool money one can invest only 35% of tournament profits.

2. $100 is the maximum buy-in for a tournament to be played.

3. In one tournament not more than 200 players can participate.

4. The minimum age of the players and observers must be 19 yrs.

5. The biggest earned single cash prize cannot exceed $3000.

6. The maximum percentage of the buy-in revenue to be used for the expenses incurred in chips, cards, tables and dealers should not exceed 20%.

7. To execute such a tournament one need to issue a license from the government.

8. The cost to apply for license to hold this tournament is $25 which is non-refundable, whereas the actual license cost is another $25.

The government has issued these rules without giving the explanations on what these are based upon. May be that it has done its homework and has consulted the local card sharks. It is just not known. It is required by the government to reveal the plan which led them to such a decision.
