Lawsuit filed against the casino in Rohnert Park

June 18th, 2008

California- A Federal lawsuit has been filed on Friday by the East Bay Attorney to prevent the casino to be built in the Rohnert Park.

Stephan Volker filed this case in the US District Court in San Francisco, to challenge the decision by Carl Artman who is the former assistant of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, for taking the land into the trust of the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria. This suit is actually against the secretary of the Interior Dick Kempthorne and not for the FIGR and Station Casinos, its partner.

The suit states that if the land is given to the trust it would harm the community and complainants which includes the Attorney Mike Healy and Michael Erikson both the Petaluma and the stop ht Casino 101 Coalition.

If this lawsuit is successful then it will not allow the Rohnert Park site to be taken into the trust which is the necessary step to open up a casino.
