Kansas State Poker Championship
December 2nd, 2008The Kansas Arthritis Foundation have found a patron in A regional charitable poker organization which has made its intention clear that it will crown a Kansas State Poker Champion later this month in a tournament at a Topeka shopping mall.
Sharks Restaurant and Billiards in Shawnee is the venue for the local qualifying rounds.
Chicago native and Washburn University student Stewart Bishop who had earlier launched the Kansas Poker News and Chicago Poker News Web sites hopes to make this charitable fund raising Endeavour an annual event.
Bishops efforts have its own share of brickbats. Brandon Burch, founder of Basehor, Kan.-based Double Deuce Poker LLC that operates 60 bar poker games every week in Topeka and the Kansas City metro area, is furious by Bishop openly recruiting Double Deuce players.
“They’re trying to take my players,” said Burch. “There ought to be some ethics when you’re fundraising.”
Nevertheless Bishop is unfazed by it.
“A poker player is not proprietary property,” said Bishop. “(Burch) is a disgruntled competitor.”
More fireworks are in store it is for sure.
