Jose Menendez Attempts to Legalize Live Poker

November 27th, 2008

Jose Menendez, the Texas state Legislator is all set to bring forth, again a bill that seeks to legalize live poker in his state. The voluminous 40 page bill has in place checks, specific limitations and exceptions that make it short of broad legalization of Poker in Texas.

However the tabling of the bill can be seen as a step towards legalization of poker. The bill, aptly christened as House Bill 222, called The Poker Gaming Act of 2009 is the second attempt by Jose Menendez to push forth the bill for legalizing Poker in Texas.

The previous year a similar effort was made to introduce a bill to legalize Poker. The bill ruffled many feathers and started a debate on the proposal. The bill had the support from Texas Poker PAC, Texas Card players Association and the Poker Players Alliance. Later during a public hearing it attracted scores of poker pro including bigwigs like Clonie Gowen, Lyle Berman, Erick Lindgren and Crandell Addington.

The bill was introduced very late and not much deliberation could be done as the time was at a premium. So the bill could not be tabled.
